striders / half track racing
Striders, or no pedal balance bikes, are designed specifically to help toddlers and young children learn balance and co-ordination BEFORE pedalling. The simple, no pedal design allows even the youngest children to learn to ride on two wheels, avoiding tricycle tip overs and training wheel wobbles, instilling considerable confidence and stellar bike handling skills.
The Kelowna BMX Club offers specific strider class racing at local events for riders 2-5 years old.
A $35 yearly license is required after an initial one day free trial, and there are reduced race night fees.
The race course runs from the exit of corner 2 to the finish, and strider races are run just prior to full track racing on race days, so that we can get the kids home for earlier bed times, or they can stick around to watch the big kids race.
All that is required is a bike, helmet, long pants, and a long sleeved shirt. (Gloves are also recomended).
For young (2-5yr) riders with pedal bikes, we also offer half track racing that follows the same format.
Info and sign up for strider racing is available any Monday night at practice.
All riders are required to have completed one practice session prior to racing.
